Most NMI sign-in failures come down to five causes: the wrong gateway URL for your account, a username that isn't what you think it is, a lockout from earlier attempts, a password that needs resetting, or a browser/MFA glitch. Work through them in order below — the large majority of "I can't log in to NMI" cases resolve in the first two steps.
1. You're on the wrong gateway URL
This is the single most common cause. NMI is white-label, so a merchant onboarded through a reseller has an account on a branded host — not on nmi.com/logins. If you try nmi.com/logins with branded-account credentials (or the reverse), the login screen loads fine but rejects you, because your account doesn't exist on that host.
- Direct NMI account: nmi.com/logins.
- Reseller account: the branded URL in your welcome email.
- USAePay account: USAePay login portal.
2. The username isn't what you assume
Your gateway username is whatever was set when the account was created — it is not necessarily your email address, and it is not your merchant ID or processing account number. Check the welcome email for the exact username. If multiple people share the account, each has their own username; using a colleague's won't work with your password.
3. You're locked out from earlier attempts
Repeated failed sign-ins lock the user for a cool-off window. While locked, even the correct password fails — which tempts people into more attempts that extend the lock. The fix is to stop and wait, typically 15 minutes, then try once with credentials you're confident in (or reset first).
4. Reset the password the right way
- Use the forgot-password link on the sign-in screen. The gateway emails a reset link to the address on file.
- Check spam if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes.
- On a reseller account, if no email comes, the provider may manage resets — contact the payment company that issued your account. They can reset you from their partner portal.
5. Multi-factor & browser issues
MFA code rejected
Usually device clock drift — sync system time and use the next code. Lost the device? Use recovery codes or have your admin re-enroll you.
Page won't load
Try another browser or network, clear the DNS cache, or temporarily disable a VPN.
Stuck after sign-in
Aggressive third-party-cookie blocking can break a redirect — allow cookies for the gateway host.
If none of the above works, the issue is account-specific and needs the operator. Contact NMI via nmi.com/contact, or — on a reseller account — the payment company on your statement. We're an independent reference and can't access accounts; see contact.
FAQ
Why does my correct password fail?
Usually you're on the wrong gateway host for your account, or locked from earlier attempts. Confirm the URL, wait out any lockout, then retry or reset.
Who resets my password on a reseller account?
Often the reseller. If the self-service email doesn't arrive, contact the payment company that issued your account.
My MFA code is rejected — why?
Most often device clock drift. Sync system time and use the next code; use recovery codes if you lost the device.
Can this site reset my login?
No. We're an independent reference with no account access. Only NMI or your reseller can.
